Red and the Wolf is a 90-minute folk-opera loosely based on Red Riding Hood for a cast of five actors.
The story takes place in a quasi-medieval society at a fortress on the edge of civilization, built to keep out the wildlings, known as wolves. Red is the captain of the fortress and is trying to live up to the legacy of her heroic parents.
When a wildling leaves the forest, Red allows him to live among them in peace. The Woodcutter and Red's Grandmother cannot see the wolf as anything but a threat and take increasingly drastic measures to get Red to see things their way.
It is a story about people's differences, seen and unseen, about prejudice and hatred and fear.
With a score performed by two musicians that double on different instruments, the music is a mixture of jazz, folk, and Gaelic guitar/fiddle.
